How Much Do Headshots Cost?

The cost of headshots Los Angeles can vary wildly. This is likely true of any major city. It can start as low as around $50 and balloon up to near $1,000. At one point, there was one headshot provider in Los Angeles asking for close to $10,000. Why do rates vary so much?

Part of it is that there are many photographers providing headshots in Los Angeles. Expertise.com has vetted close to 1,300 in Los Angeles – and that’s just the ones they have vetted to come up with a list of their top 20 or so headshot providers, of which The Light Committee makes the cut.

With so many photographers there will be big differences in what each charges. Much of the lower-cost providers might be based on the level of experience or resources they have. For example, they might just be starting out or do not have a studio and lighting and so just do outdoors headshots. On the other end of the spectrum there might be highly experienced headshot photographers with a studio and high demand that might charge several hundreds of dollars.

So, when you’re shopping around, look for balance. Do your research and start by considering only photographers that have at least 50 Google reviews. Then sort them by who has the most Google reviews. There are plenty of photographers with 100+ reviews. So, you will have no shortage.

Next, check out their work. See example headshots to make sure they can do what you need them to do. Is the quality there? Can they adapt lighting or is the lighting in their shots pretty much the same? There is not necessarily anything wrong with the same lighting for everyone unless you are looking to have your headshot help you stand out rather than fit in.

Finally, after you have a short list of photographers who’s work you like, check out their rates. Some photographers will list their rates right on their website while others will ask you to call for quotes.

With a little homework, and in just under 10 minutes, you can uncover value and ensure the photographer you end up working with will be a positive collaboration.
